Angular blue consonants. Rounded orange vowels. See and feel how the upper part compresses to make room for a final consonant.

Hangul is a writing system
you can build, piece by piece.

Explore how 19 consonants and 21 vowels fit together, so unfamiliar syllables feel less unfamiliar. Understand → interact → practise → check: visual information always comes before explanations.

  1. 01

    Look and understand

Blue, angular tiles for consonants; orange, rounded tiles for vowels. Colour and shape help you tell them apart.

  2. 02

    Drag and build

Drag tiles into place to build a syllable. Feel how the upper part compresses when a final consonant is added.

  3. 03

    Listen and read aloud

Listen to the syllable you built and read it aloud. Slow pronunciation uses a separate audio recording, rather than slowed-down playback.

  4. 04

    Check by reading

Read words made from the letters you have learned. The goal is to read words you have never seen before.

A place to learn and come back to every day

A

Build Hangul yourself

Drag consonant and vowel tiles into syllables. Learn how Hangul fits together as the upper part compresses to make room for a final consonant.

B

No reliance on romanisation

Read Hangul directly, without substituting romanised pronunciation. Colour and shape distinguish consonants from vowels and help you learn to recognise them.

C

Through your first language

Pronunciation explanations are based on your first language. They describe the differences that matter to you, such as opening your mouth a little wider.

D

Offline first

Everything you need to learn is inside the app. Keep learning wherever you are, without worrying about mobile data.

Six colours reveal the structure of Hangul

Colour never works alone: shape (angular or rounded) and line weight provide additional cues.
